The Top 5

I am not referring to those intelligent and alert students who are belonged in an honor list of a class, but rather, Ia am referring to the circle of friends of five alluring ladies who are beautiful in heart, funny in nature, witty in many things, and attractive as they really are.Eloise, Flor, Lovely, Jen, and me composes the fascinating top 5. We call it top 5 simply because, to have friends with each other is really a perfect achievement for all of us. Though were from different places, but still, the unavoidable and playful fate made our paths meet with each other. It's not hard to for me to have friends with them because honestly, we have the same unique interests, craziness, and our innumerable varied moods easily click with one another.
One thing that is admirable in our friendship is when we always think positively, that we don't lose hope when we're dreaming together of something. We love to laugh and we easily make other people smile, that's our weapon. Sometimes people might say that we're annoying and a bit crazy because of the silly things that we're doing, but duh, the hell we care about what other people say against us. As long as we're happy and we did not hurt anyone, we will continue our friendship till the rest of the time.

My Highway

Highway is a public road, we don't know its end, my life is like a highway, many people will just passed, others will leave and sometimes, it is the place of all accidents, such as Falling In Love.
I really don't know where will I start  to tell you  my story. But I guess its also nice to share with you how colorful my life is.
It was a blissful years when my family was still complete,I with my 3 brothers and my parents have a good times with each other, not until the time comes that my eldest brother needs to be far away from us for some controversial things and it is also for his own good. It is not easy for our family to be happy thinking that my brother is not with us, I always see my mother crying and worried because of the things happened to my kuya. I miss him so much because his one of the persons that used to protect me from the things that I am doing. After 6 years, my kuya went back to our home last January but he is only with us for 3 weeks. Though its just a short time vacation but still I treasure it so much.
Talking about my family, I have my a.k.a grandparents, though they are not my real lolo and lola but still he gave us a care like a real grandparents. Were living in the same roof, they don't have a child that is why I am so thankful to God because he let us experience the love of a grandparents.
As the only girl, my parents is always watching me especially when it comes to love stuffs. Ever since in high school,I never tried to enter the world of love, because according to papa, if I finish my study, then that is the time that I am allowed to have a boyfriend. Though there are some guys who courted me, but I don't understand with myself, I am afraid if there's someone who is expressing his feeling to me even though we had a mutual feelings with each other. Maybe at that time, I am not ready to enter any relationships.
I have this crush in 1st year to 2nd year high school, he's name is Marc,he is a silent type guy, I gave his name a codename which is "Lollipop" so that my classmates and friends will never identify him. He is the son of our cashier in school, he used to stay outside in her mom's office every noon time.
One afternoon, me and my close friend Cherry have a private conversation, we have a deal that we will share our secrets with each other, especially about our crushes. I thought before that I am the only one who had a codename for my crush, Cherry told me that she is also head-over-heels with his crush called "Popsicle". We never reveal the identity of our crushes until it goes for months and years. I observe that Cherry became obsess with his own "Popsicle",but I can't blame her to be like that because I am also near to obsession when it talks about "Lollipop".
Unexpectedly one afternoon, our teacher told us to clean the meditation garden at the back of the cashiers'office. While walking with Cherry, shockingly, "Lollipop" is also walking towards us, our eyes have met, and I felt that he is slowly melting me in every single glimpse that he is doing. It's like a daydream, it only stops when I notice that  Cherry is shouting for his "Popsicle" while looking at Mark. Yes, we have the same crush. When she knew that, I observe some changes on her treatment to me, but I did not let our friendship be broken just because of a crush. Well, I told her that I will stop fantasizing for Marc because I know that he will never be mine and she too, also realize that she's over reacting where in the first place, there is no "Cherry and Marc". It sounds funny, but then, we learned a lot of lessons with that thing.
Year had past, 3rd year was ended, and the summer comes. After the "Lollipop" obsession, I became more closer to my friends and family without crush or romantic things. My family decided to have a vacation in our hometown at Zamboanga Del Norte, and there I met my 1st boyfriend,Harold Billy.
Do you believe in love at first sight?Well, at that time in my age, I really don't know if its love or infatuation. We met at the wrong place and at the wrong time.Believe it or not, I met him at the internet cafe near in my aunties' house. It was a rainy afternoon when my mom asked me to find my youngest brother, when I asked my cousin, he told me that my brother was in the internet cafe. I bring with me my 2 little nieces aged 5 and 6, when we reach the cafe, I saw my brother playing computer games and seem so busy on his own stuff. We waited for him but it became a cause of my boredom, so to have a leisure time while waiting, I use one unit at the cafe. The boredom became lesser and lesser while exploring the internet when I notice a guy watching me not so far at my side. I became flattered because he is truly cute and handsome. Maybe his curious about me, so he asked many things. I found myself enjoying chatting with him and there is a spark in every words that we are telling. At that moment, he became my ultimate crush.I found out also that my aunt's family and my other cousins are close to their family.. Days had past, he became the subject of my mind. How many times I've wishes that he will court me at that moment, I texted my closest friends in Davao about him,and they too were happy for me. I really wait that Harold will say something to me, but I just ended in my false hopes.I cried when its time for me to go back here in Davao. I find all the means to have a communication with him,and thanks to friendster, we shared comments together. He asked for my number, and you know what I felt? I can't explain it, its a strange feeling that really strucks my heart. Yes!! he courted me at last, I don't have any hesitations, I just said yes to his love.At first I'm very reluctant because for me, the title,
"first boyfriend" deserves to a man that will really love me, but I saw his efforts and how he proved it to me, though we only met for days but it sounds for years.
I thought before that it is easy to handle a relationship like this, but it's not. It is really true that if you will enter the world of love, you should be ready in all heartaches and pains. Our relationship had also experienced break-ups because of his third parties, and its really an agony to me. I suffered much but I still love him. I love him more and more though there are many times I've cried, but its not the reason for me to let him go. I still hold on because of love.
The communication is still there until now, in cellphones, social accounts, and web cams.Until now, I am thankful to God that we reach this year, we will have our 3rd Anniversary this May 29. Before entering the college, I really think a course that he likes for my study and he too, will be on his first step on fourth  year college in AB Political Science in a college at Zamboanga . Both our parents knew about us, I know that time comes, he would be at my side the next moment when I will continue to write this.We trusted each other and always pray to God that he will guide us always.
To have a long distance relationship is not easy, it needs TRUST, COMMUNICATION and HONESTY. They say, long distance love will never last, but for me, it depends upon the two people on how they will be able to carry the love they had.  For now, he is the only one I think of living with in the future, but God is always be the one to be followed in all his will. My story is not still over, because I know that the Greatest Author, our Father Almighty, was still busy writing the best story for me.

The Great Debaters

Plot

Exposition:

Mel Tolson, a poet and professor at Wiley College feels he has something to prove, and works to build up the school debate team to the highest national standards. After a tough audition process-students are put on the spot and ask to name and quote major historical figures, he had chosen his team of four. Samantha Booke has just transferred to Wiley and the only girl in the team, Henry Lowe,a handsome man who struggles to balance his academic ideals with his ways, and James Farmer Jr.,a 14-year-old son of another Wiley Professor.

Rising Action/ Complication:

Mr. Farmer, James father is the first African- American who manages to get doctorate degree in Texas. He very much wants his son to follow his path and urges him to study hard. While in the school, Professor Tolson is giving instruction to the debate team. He tells them that the Whites have tried to keep their body, and kill their mind. White people wants to keep them psychologically dependent so that they can never improve and Professor Tolson tells them that they will try to save their righteous mind.

Climax:
The issues selected for the debate are interesting. The young debaters expounded the issue on school integration, civil disobedience and other big issues. As the team successfully debates local schools, Professor  Tolson puts himself in increasingly danger by acting as a covert labor organizer for local farmers. At the same time, James and his family and as well as the entire team later on are periodically threatened by lynch mobs.

Falling Action/ Denouement:
Each of the students goes through major life changes as they continue to be successful in every debate they had. James Farmer Jr. is now very eager to prove his intellectual worth to his demanding father. The debaters in the team did their best to prove to all White people that they will stand up and fight for their rights as a person. And now, the team left on their own to prepare themselves for the debate with Harvard University, and fortunately won in the debate. James became one of the leaders of the civil-rights movement and founds the Congress of Racial Equality.

Conflict:
Professor Melvin Tolson puts himself in an increasing danger by acting as a covert labor organizer of local farmers. And at the same time, James Farmer and his family and as well as the entire team were threatened by the lynch mobs. There is also some discriminatrion when a black man will own a suit or a car then the white people will attack them.

Characters:
The protagonist in the story were James Farmer Jr. who is a 14-yr-old son of another Willey professor, Samantha Booke, who dreams of becoming the State's third-ever black female,  and Henry Lowe, who is devilishly handsome man who struggles his academic ideals with his hedonistic studies.
The antagonist in the story were the Lynch mobs who had hurt and killed many black people. Sheriff Dozzier who caught Mr. Tolson belongs to the round/dynamic character since he is also favor with the lynch mobs. James Farmer Sr.,Hamilton Burgess, Pearl Farmer, and Ruth Tolson belongs to the flat characters since they stay of being good to the protagonist and their role or behavior in the story did not change.
James Farmer Jr., Samantha Booke,Henry Lowe, and Professor Tolson are the main and principal characters since the story itself is revolving on their team, they have the greates achievement and role in the story.
The minor characters were Hamilton Burgess who quited on the team, James Farmer Sr., Pearl Farmer, RuthTolson, and Sheriff Dozier for they have only few roles in the story, though they have only few scenes but they also add color in the story.

Theme:
The Great Debaters shows how black realize that Education was the key to their success. These will help them to conquer their own justice as a person. Black life is all about segregation and discrimination and the audience have to see that black achievement and victory are not easily obtained.

Setting:
The story happened in Marshall, Texas, particularly in Willey College,a school of black people.

Point of View:
These story is a third person's point of view since it was being related by a narrator from a true story of other people. The Great Debaters was based on the real story of the debating team of Willey College, where it talks about the victory of black people's achievement despite of the discrimination happening in their lives.

KARMA

"How people treat you is their karma; how you react is yours".  ~Wayne Dyer

Whenever I heard the word karma, for me it is the outcome or the result of the bad things you did to others. It is the return of  those evil things you have done to other people. In this selection, karma means fate which has the power or agency supposed to determine the outcome of events before they occur. Here in the story,it is not only talking about karma but also the story of  a person's acceptance of own nationality.Karma in this selection was being emphasized to Sir Mohan Lai, he is a Hindu and knows and love to live and speak in English way.
Because of his obsession on American way of living, he forgot his nationality and he don't even speak his own language which is Hindustani. It is not wrong to adore and love the culture of other country, but as a person, we should be proud of our own race. He even want to impress all the Hindu people in the train that he knows English and that he is not an ordinary Hindu man but rather an educated and an intelligent man.
Pretending to be someone will never bring good to ourselves. Just like on what had happened to Sir Mohan Lai, he expected that people would see him as a high class person in society because he is like an Englishman in the way he speak and his manner of dealing with people around him. But his expectations were all wrong, he was being dumped outside the train because of his boastfulness.
I never anticipate that scene where he was like a trash that has been threw out roughly. I observe that the Hindu people were very caring when it comes to their culture. Here in the Philippines, every time we encounter a person which is very good in speaking English, we really appreciate that person and and put him in the pedestal. But in the story, all his efforts just to have a good impression to the Hindu people were being rejected.
His fate was not that good as he thought.I have learned that we should love our own country first before appreciating those of others.
